Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24 72, from Long Beach CA. Her aunt Denise was a great influence on her enthusiasm for artistic expression and creative thinking. Her aunt was a nurse, who did night shifts to ensure that she could dedicate her time to art literature and theatre. DuVernay enjoyed the movie West Side Story, which she brought to her. DuVernay realized that art could be a powerful tool to promote the cause of activism. DuVernay had her mother who was socially conscious and taught her how to use art as a method of expressing herself. Even though DuVernay grew up in Compton with her family, she lived at Lowndes County Alabama where her parents lived for many generations. DuVernay's father recalled watching the historical civil rights marches across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the adjacent town Selma Alabama. DuVernay would use the summers she spent in Alabama as inspiration for her next film, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay graduated with a graduation certificate from Saint Joseph High School, Lakewood California in 1990. Following graduation, DuVernay enrolled at the University of California Los Angeles and graduated with degrees in English as well as African American study. DuVernay began to produce in broadcast journalism when she was still in university. Her career began working as an assistant at CBS News in the O.J. Simpson Trial. DuVernay recalls being asked to examine the garbage inside the house of a member of the jury. The duties she was required to complete left her unhappy which is why, when she decided to not pursue the field of journalism, she was able to move to the field of public relations. DuVernay began her first position as a publicity specialist in a small production studio right after she graduated from school. In 1999, she launched her own business that specialized in public relations, The DuVernay Agency. Alongside PR, the agency has launched lifestyle networks and promotions, like The Urban Beauty Collective. Autumn Riley.............................Autumn Riley was born in Los Angeles United States.
